Travel News Summary in September 2024
As September arrived, travel in Indonesia became lively with various activities. Here’s a quick rundown of the main events.
Lodaya Train Upgrades to New Generation Stainless Steel
Beginning September 1, 2024, the Lodaya Train, serving both morning and evening routes, will upgrade to a series of New Generation Stainless Steel carriages for its executive and economy classes. This update follows similar enhancements on the Argo Lawu, Argo Dwipangga, and Taksaka trains.
The new carriages feature a variety of improved facilities, including automatic electric doors at entrances and between carriages, a Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) on each train displaying the nearest station, speed, and room temperature, as well as additional taps and foldable tables for changing baby diapers in the women's toilets.
The trains also feature tempered double glass windows, USB charger ports at every seat, and premium interiors and furniture in the dining cars.
These upgrades are expected to enhance passenger comfort, particularly for those traveling on the Bandung-Solobalapan route.

The thirteen countries eligible for visa-free entry are Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, Suriname, Colombia, and Hong Kong.
Under the regulation, visitors from these countries can stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days without a visa. However, they must enter through designated immigration checkpoints.

Mooncake Festival: Celebrating Tradition Amid Diversity
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is celebrated not only in China but across several Asian countries, including Indonesia. This year, the festival falls on September 17. The celebration serves as a way to preserve Chinese cultural traditions within Indonesia's diverse and multicultural society.
Observed annually on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, the festival is marked by sharing mooncakes, lighting lanterns, and appreciating the beauty of the full moon.
These customs honor the ancient legend of Chang'e, the moon goddess, keeping the tradition alive for generations. In addition to Indonesia, other Southeast Asian countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam, also celebrate the festival.
